About Music Therapy

Music therapy can be used to treat a variety of needs.

The populations who utilize music therapy are as follows:

  • Developmental (autism, down syndrome, developmental delay)

  • Psychiatric (anxiety, depression, mood disorders, suicidal ideation)

  • Medical rehabilitation (stroke, hospitalization, TBI)

Music therapy can be used in a variety of ways to treat specific needs

The 4 aspects of music therapy:

  • Recreative - singing or playing to a popular and/or pre-recorded song; song lyric discussion

  • Improvisation - using instruments and voice to improvise spontaneous music making

  • Creative - writing a song, recording the findings

  • Instruction - learning to play an instrument or how to sing
